Patrick about
Patrick Patrick
in Memoriam Patricio Martínez
for voices, ensemble, dance and interactive visual design

“Patrick” was written in memoriam Patricio Martínez, cousin of the composer. Patrick died suddenly and unexpectedly at the beginning of last Summer (2014). He had a long disease that had damaged his heart. He had received a heart transplant. However, when everything was going well, something happened and his brother, Juan Antonio (John), who was staying at Patrick's those days, received the terrible demand “please come as soon as possible because Patrick is dying”. The opera deals with the very last moments of the life of Patricio (Patrick). It starts with an enormous fortissimo symbolizing the crushing demand on John, and then Patricks's wait for him.
The opera expresses all the condensed feelings in those last minutes: denial, sadness, melancholy, anger, love, desperation and even craziness, all of them interrupted by the sudden death.
